Dear Students,

Sofia University is converting all of its degree programs from block tuition to a simple per-unit tuition model starting Fall Quarter 2017. In most cases the per-unit rate will result in a lowering of your overall tuition! It will also give you more flexibility.

Existing students have the option to stay on your current block tuition model for the rest of your current degree program or accept switching to the new per-unit tuition in the Fall (or your next enrollment quarter). You will have this option to switch only this once (you either switch now or stay on your existing block tuition plan until you graduate from your current degree program).

NEW Per-Unit Tuition Rates:

You can see a snapshot of the new per-unit tuition rate table below, and on the attached election form, or view a full version in the Academic Catalog 2017-2018 (http://www.sofia.edu/academics/)
:

Bachelor’s

ALL PROGRAMS

$350 per unit

Master’s

MACP, MATP, META

$650 per unit

Master’s

MATP-B/C

$550 per unit

Master’s

MSCS, MBA

$450 per unit

Doctoral

PHD, PSYD

$950 per unit

Examples:

Bachelor's tuition has been reduced in all cases.

MSCS - At exactly 10 units in a quarter both the block and per-unit tuition rates are the same total of $4500. But at all other units above and below 10 (i.e. 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,11,12) it would be a significant cost savings under the new $450 per-unit tuition rate.

MATP - For 9 or 10 units in a quarter the block tuition rate would be slightly lower than the $650 per-unit tuition rate. However at all other unit totals (i.e. 6,7,8,11,12,13), the $650 per-unit tuition rate would be a significant cost savings.

PHD - For 9 or 10 units in a quarter the block tuition rate would be slightly lower than the $950 per-unit tuition rate. However at all other unit totals (i.e. 6, 7,8,11,12,13), the $950 per-unit tuition rate would be a significant cost savings.

If you would like help understanding the benefits to you of this new per-unit tuition model, feel free to reach out to Jenny Zhang (Jianhong.Zhang@Sofia.edu) or me (Ross.Shott@Sofia.edu) to find the best path forward for your particular circumstances.

ACTION REQUIRED:

All students must return the signed election form (Enrollment Agreement Addendum 2017) to student_services@sofia.edu in order to complete Fall Registration (or your next enrollment quarter if you are on break for Fall). Your account will have a temporary hold until we receive back this signed selection form.

Attendance Policy

Faculty will monitor attendance for all students and maintain attendance records in the University's learning management system.  Students' overall grade for the term may be impacted for students who do not maintain regular attendance and participation in their courses.

In the Psychology programs the minimum attendance requirement is 80% for the other non-psychology programs it's 70%.  All students must meet these minimum attendance requirements.

International Students:
Students must maintain minimum 70% attendance each quarter.  Students who fail to maintain attendance may result in termination.

Why does the University get involved in voter registration?

The 1998 reauthorization of the federal Higher Education Act and the State of California Donahoe Higher Education Act include a requirement that higher education institutions make a “good faith effort” to make mail voter registration forms available to all enrolled students. This federal and state legislation supports the campus’s long-standing goals of engendering leadership and citizenship among the student body.

Am I eligible to register to vote?

In order to register to vote you must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of California, and at least 18 years of age at the time of the next election.
