On Monday, July 15, 2015, the Western Association of Schools and
Colleges (WASC) forwarded the final report for its accreditation review of Sofia
University. In conducting its review, the evaluation team assessed the
university under the WASC Commission Standards and Core Commitments and
submitted its report for action by the WASC Accrediting Commission for Senior
Colleges and Universities.
The Commission is slated to act on the report in February 2015. Accreditation indicates that Sofia University meets high standards of quality, capacity, and effectiveness. We are proud to have been accredited by WASC since 1992, and I am pleased to report that, having successfully completed a rigorous review process, Sofia University has once again been reaccredited. In the Commission’s Action Letter, Sofia University was commended for the “new leadership for assuming responsibility for the continuation of the education of some 400 enrolled students, for finding the financial resources to sustain the university through a challenging transition, and for seeking to articulate a sustaining vision for the university going forward.” Many faculty and staff participated in this effort, which led to the establishment of the new programs, improvements in educational technology, and a stronger focus on opportunities. These and other outcomes will continue to guide our educational improvement efforts during the next decade and beyond.
